King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC), is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals with a turnover of nearly £1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 12,600 staff based across 5 main sites in South East London and Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) site in Camberwell and the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in Bromley, Orpington Hospital, and some services at Beckenham Beacon and Queen Mary’s Sidcup.

The Trust is recognised internationally for its work in liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences, cardiac, haemato-oncology, fetal medicine, stroke, major trauma, and Emergency Department.

Applications are invited to work in the Department of Haematological Medicine at King’s College Hospital, for an intital period of 6 months. This is an exciting opportunity to join a centre of excellence specialising in haemato-oncology, bone marrow transplantation, haemoglobinopathy, coagulation and transfusion medicine. Our integrated haemato-oncology and transplant service has 4 dedicated wards treating all forms of haematological malignancy as well as marrow failure disorders. It carries out all forms of autologous and allogeneic transplantation and has an active cell and gene therapy program. The Department looks after approximately 1200 adults and children with Sickle Cell disease. King’s is an NHS Exemplar Centre for prevention and management of venous thromboembolism (VTE), and has a large multi-disciplinary Anticoagulation and Clinical Thrombosis Team. The Haematology medical team comprises 30 Consultant Haematologists, 1 Clinical Lecturer, 14 Specialist Registrars, 5 Senior Clinical Fellows and 11 SHOs.

There are ample educational and training opportunities. The Trust Doctor post does not have formal educational recognition but appointees will work alongside Specialist trainees (ST3+). On-call commitment 1:13 full shift rota. Appointment will be for a period of 6 months in the first instance. The posts will provide excellent haematology experience and plentiful educational opportunities including weekly protected teaching and numerous departmental seminars. All trainees are actively encouraged to engage in research projects
