We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialty Doctor in Learning Disabilities to join our team at Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The Mental Health Directorate is responsible for providing Adult Mental Health Services, Older People Mental Health Services, Substance Misuse Services, Forensic Psychiatry and Rehabilitation & Recovery Services.

The Learning Disability Services are part of the Mental Health and Learning Disability Delivery Unit of Swansea Bay University NHS Trust. The Learning Disability service is the largest in Wales, serving a population of 1.3 million.  There is a complement of 9 Consultant Psychiatrists.  The department has strong academic links with the Universities of Cardiff and Swansea, the Welsh Centre for Learning Disabilities and the Department of Intellectual Disabilities at the University of Glamorgan. 

We have completed a modernisation programme and are now a totally community based service with commissioned specialist provision.

The post holder will work as a full member of those teams, supporting three of the Consultant Psychiatrists covering the areas of Bridgend, RCT and Merthyr. In addition, the post will involve input to Specialist Residential and Acute Assessment Units providing a service for people with complex mental health problems and challenging behaviour. 

The post is full time, ten sessions. You will be expected to participate in a 1:11 (non- resident) on call. And the base is Hafod Y Wennol, Acute Assessment Unit, Hensol, Pontyclun.
