Frimley Park Hospital Stroke Unit is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative professional to complement the current team of five  Stroke physicians and to help us continue to deliver a high performing service. Frimley Park Hospital has a well-deserved reputation for good quality stroke care and we have consistently achieved excellent outcomes for our patients. We have been recognised as providing one of the best stroke services in Surrey and South East Coast (SSNAP Clinical Audits rating ‘A’). Stroke is a strategic priority for the Trust as we believe our patients deserve the very best. Candidates are expected to have received subspecialty training in stroke medicine and will also have the opportunity to work in their parent specialty of Geriatrics, GIM, Neurology or Acute Medicine if desired.

Frimley Park Hospital is commissioned to provide Hyper Acute Stroke Care (HASU) to the communities Frimley Health serves in Surrey, Berkshire, Hampshire and Buckinghamshire. We deliver a HASU/Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) stroke service at Frimley Park Hospital with TIA, six week follow up and six month review clinics, and an ASU at Royal Surrey County Hospital (RSCH), Guildford.

We have a 10 bedded HASU and an 18 bedded ASU at Frimley Park Hospital. We also have a 13 bedded ASU at RSCH. In addition we have a highly regarded Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team.

The successful applicant will be based at Frimley Park Hospital. The post holder will be expected to deliver stroke care across all areas of the pathway including HASU, ASU, TIA clinic and Stroke follow up clinics. They will work alongside our multidisciplinary team (MDT) of stroke physicians, neuro-rehabilitation physician, stroke nurse consultant, stroke nurse specialists, clinical neuropsychologist and stroke therapists on both sites.

The successful applicant will participate in a 1:8 on call rota providing 24/7 thrombolysis with daily HASU ward rounds and TIA/follow-up clinics. We have close links with neurology, neuroradiology and vascular surgery  on-site with weekly joint meetings with each. Our thrombectomy provider is St George’s University Hospital, London 24/7.

Frimley Park Hospital is located just off junction 4 of the M3 and is ideally located within commuting distance of South West London – the nearest mainline train station is Farnborough Main with quick access to Waterloo and Clapham Junction. Local towns are Camberley, Farnborough, Ascot, Windsor, Farnham, and Guildford.
