We are seeking to recruit an inspirational Medical Director with enthusiasm and passion for taking forward change.

About you:

Are you an exceptional individual senior clinician operating at AMD/Deputy MD level and above, who has experience of operating at Board level, with a proven track record of successfully delivering your professional and leadership portfolio, preferably in a rural and integrated health and social care environment?

Are you looking for a role where your natural leadership, drive and determination will shape the successful development and design of sustainable
quality services?

Do you have exceptional communication, negotiating and influencing skills that will support and encourage clinical and non-clinical staff to develop truly rural solutions for the significant challenges ahead for both health and social care?

Are you looking for an opportunity both to design and lead local services, and to influence national policy and strategy?

If so, then we can offer you a role as Medical Director in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK stretching from the Brecon Beacons to the foothills of Snowdonia, from the Marches to the Cambrian Mountains.

About the role:

You will be responsible for medical leadership, building, motivating, developing and the regulation of all doctors employed and contracted with the health board. You will drive forward service transformation across the Powys healthcare community.

The rural setting and clinical governance agenda will require a particular focus on community and primary care. You will act as the principal source of strategic medical advice to the Board, and will provide assurance on service quality.

As an Executive member of the Board, you will hold corporate responsibility jointly with other Board members for the strategic direction, corporate policy-making and development and delivery of Health Board objectives.

The unique nature of Powys also means that as an Executive Director you will have the opportunity to cover a broader range of portfolios and provide leadership to service, function and strategic areas that go beyond your immediate responsibilities. We are open and flexible when it comes to our leadership
approach. We would be open to part time and secondment arrangements for suitable candidates as well as full time candidates.

What can we offer you?

Powys is a rural county and as a health board we provide as many services as safely as possible locally, through GPs and other primary care professionals, a network of community hospitals and community services, including midwifery- led services, mental health, learning disabilities, children’s services, adult rehabilitation and frailty services. Our current board is forward thinking and ambitious for change seeking to transform services including embracing the digital opportunities available. Alongside this we have a significant commissioning role working with providers in both Wales and England.

Our intention for Powys is to become a value based healthcare organisation and an exemplar in its field as a community provider of services and commissioner of £200 million pounds of secondary care provision. Our ambitious Health and Care Strategy sets out our vision for the future of a heathy, caring Powys. It describes how in partnership with Powys County Council we will focus on wellbeing, ensure early help and support, tackle the main conditions that limit life, and provide joined up care. This includes increasing the capacity, capability and resilience of primary and community services, improving integration throughout the health and care pathway, and strengthening our planning and commissioning of high quality services from neighbouring organisations. You will be part of an experienced and talented Executive Team that has ambition for excellence and a vision for transformation integration and alignment of healthcare services to best meet the present and future needs of the people of Powys. The Health Board will also be strengthening its medical leadership by investing in two Assistant Medical
Directors, and already has 2 Clinical Directors, one for Women and Children’s Services and one for Mental Health.

The Perfect Place for work/life balance Promising incredible beauty, magical escapism and the kind of magnetism that pulls you into every inch of its character, it’s not surprising that Powys is one of the happiest places to work and live.

Let your children grow up in one of the safest and most inspiring parts of the country.

Comfortably buy the home of your dreams.

Role requirements:

You will be a senior medical professional with full GMC registration, a proven track record of medical management experience and demonstrable knowledge of clinical governance.

You will have a proven record of moving clinical services forward and bringing clinical colleagues with you. Willingness to adapt and be excited by the new challenges that working in Powys offers. Experience of working in a strategic capacity at a senior level within a complex organisation and knowledge of the Welsh Health Service is desirable.
