Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon – Sub-specialty interest in Hand Surgery

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust based at Musgrove Park Hospital.

The successful applicants will join a team of 17 Consultants and 2 Associate Specialists in providing a comprehensive elective Orthopaedic and Trauma service to the population of Somerset, including a Countywide Spinal Surgery service. The Department has a major commitment to training, supervising 7 SpR’s, 2 ST1/2’s, 7 Foundation Year 2 Doctors and a team of Advanced Practitioners, as well as teaching of Medical Students from the University of Bristol based at the Somerset Academy.

We are looking for fellowship trained surgeons with interests in hand surgery. Further interests will be considered if they are complementary to the department. The successful candidates will be expected to work closely with the existing orthopaedic team and have appropriate recent general orthopaedic trauma experience.

The post holder will initially be supported and mentored by the current Consultant Hand Surgeon. The post holder will be expected to provide a full range of elective and trauma hand surgery using both day surgery and in-patient operating lists. It is preferable the post holder is trained to Diploma level in Hand Surgery.

Musgrove Park Hospital is situated in the South West of England in the county town of Taunton, close to J25 of the M5 motorway, 48 miles south of Bristol and is 2 hours by rail from London. The Vale of Taunton sits between 2 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Quantock and Blackdown Hills, and is within easy reach of the North Devon and Dorset coasts.

All applicants must either be on the GMC’s specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview.
