Are you a motivated ED consultant? Why not become part of the dynamic #teamED?

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine based at the Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital - #teamED.

Less than full time contracts can be accommodated and we actively pursue those with dual accreditation to extend our expertise and diversity.

The two Emergency Departments act as a single Emergency Service based on the two sites. The Royal Preston site is designated as the Major Trauma Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria with #team ED leading the multi-disciplinary trauma team. Successful applicants will join 17 Middle Grade doctors (including 5 ST4+, 3 CT3s), 22 FY2-ST2 doctors and 3 FY1 doctors providing comprehensive clinical support to the departments. We are now taking ED trainees at ST3 level for part of their Paediatric EM rotation. There is a dedicated, highly skilled nursing workforce including a team of Nurse Clinicians, Emergency Nurse Practitioners and Physiotherapists providing extensive cover. The combined departments treated just over 121,309 patients in 2016-17.

#teamED consultant rota is annualised allowing flexibility and options for home-life balance. SPA activity will be written in the contract for simulation training as well as that required for revalidation. Any further SPA would be negotiable to enhance the candidate’s expertise and interests. There are numerous opportunities to be involved with education at undergraduate level and multi-disciplinary post graduate as well as research and audit. The consultant body is encouraged to take the lead at Directorate level and we have a good reputation for our governance procedures. For those with children both hospital sites have a nursery.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust forms one of the major Acute Trusts in the North West with a complement of over 1100 beds for a local population of 390,000 and a regional population of 1.5 million. As well as the customary specialties on site, LTHTR is a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria in the departments of Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery supporting the trauma network as well as Oncology and Renal Medicine.

If you have never visited Lancashire, what are you waiting for? We are surrounded by countryside offering numerous activities and attractions, and within easy reach of the Northern gems of The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales as well as the Fylde coast. For the city lovers Preston offers a small but attractive night life with Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds only a short journey away.
