Locum Consultant Anaesthetics
Post – 2 x Locum Consultant in Anaesthetics 10PA – 12 month posts
Applications are invited for two Locum Consultant posts in Anaesthetics based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, both are initially 12 month posts. This post will be a 10 PA contract, which will be split between 9 PAs of direct clinical care and 1 PA of supporting professional activities. The DCC lists will be worked flexibly according to departmental requirements and may include either evening lists which run until 19.30 or weekend lists (maximum 0.5PA). If this is the case, these sessions will be timetabled in the job plan and subject to the usual annual review. The department utilises the CLW Rota system and this allows annualisation of elements of the job plan. This may be offered to the successful candidate, subject to mutual agreement.
The anaesthetic department provides anaesthetic services to 13 main theatres, two day surgery theatres and maternity services. There is particular expertise in the perioperative management of high risk patients within the department and enhanced recovery pathways are embedded within clinical practice. As well as specialist tertiary cancer surgery the department also supports more routine surgical work across a range of specialities.
The current Cancer Network is also growing, bringing increasing numbers of patients to the established specialties of oesophagogastric, colorectal, Gynae-oncology, HPB, robotic prostatectomies and cystectomies and Head & Neck cancer surgery. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop their own subspecialty interests, but are required to retain competencies across a broad range of surgical specialties.
Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT in Anaesthesia.
The post-holder will comply with the recommendations of the Royal College of Anaesthetists with respect to continuing medical education and professional development. The post-holder will promote and comply with the recommendations contained in “Good Practice; a guide for Departments of Anaesthesia” published by the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Association of Anaesthetists.
