Permanent 0.9 role, with possible additional fixed-term 0.2 Clinical Leader role (with possibility of sharing between two candidates)

The role or roles

This permanent 0.9 opportunity provides a diverse and satisfying role to the successful applicant or applicants. (The important role of two year fixed-term with potential option of renewal Clinical Leader is supported with 0.2 dedicated administrative time.)

Our Service has approximately 1,800 births per year and covers a population of 180,000 people. Your duties will include regular antenatal clinics, delivery suite duties, and general gynaecology inpatient and outpatient work. The system of Maternity Care in NZ is mostly midwife led, it is important to understand how this model of care operates, and relates to your role here.

You will be joining a team of nine other Obstetricians providing a full range of Obstetric and Gynaecological care. You will be expected regardless of full time or part time status to participate equally in the provision of night, weekend and holiday call duties.

The Clinical Leader role is responsible for maintaining the close relationship our department holds with the Midwife lead Maternity Services, the Paediatric and Neonatal services, and the Surgical and Anesthesia teams. The CL is additionally responsible for shared oversight of training compliance, clinical protocols, clinical quality audit, complaints, clinical and institutional credentialling and with much assistance the roster of clinical duties. In addition, the CL will continue to play an important leadership role in the successful accomplishment of all Ministry of Health dictated patient care goals.

About the service

Our Women's Health Service at Dunedin Hospital is located in Dunedin's city centre and serves a large geographical catchment area. The hospital has 350 inpatient beds, and serves as a teaching and training institution for the University of Otago and The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG), Dunedin Hospital provides all major specialities. Dunedin provides tertiary level care and the region is well served by an excellent helicopter retrieval service.

About you

We have a close relationship with the Otago Medical School and as we are a teaching hospital, you should be enthusiastic about passing on your knowledge and skills to our undergraduate and graduate trainees.

To be eligible for the Clinical Leader role, you should have proven administrative expertise and a commitment to the organizational values of the Southern DHB.

To be successful in gaining this role you will possess the FRACP or an equivalent qualification allowing a vocational registration with the NZ medical council. The Southern DHB recruitment team are able to provide support in applying for registration.

To be successful in the role you will need to have an enthusiasm for teaching, be committed to quality service delivery and development, and be able to work effectively as a senior clinician within a multidisciplinary team. Fellowship with RANZCOG or the equivalent is essential and you must be eligible for vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council.
