Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service
Leeds Cancer Centre
Required to fill this exciting new consultant post which provides the unique opportunity to both deliver specialist diagnostic services within the Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (HMDS) and be involved in the provision of clinical haematology services.
The HMDS is one of the largest specialist haematopathology laboratories in Europe and currently serves a population of ~6 million across the North of England. The laboratory has extensive facilities and has high levels of expertise in flow cytometry, molecular diagnostics, immunohistology and informatics. The service provides fully integrated reporting compliant with the improving outcomes guidance. There is an active programme of research and development across many areas of this service which includes involvement in numerous national and international clinical trials. A major priority is developing diagnostic platforms to support precision medicine and several initiatives are underway.
You will be integral to the provision of the diagnostic service, including reporting of liquid and tissue specimens, providing specialist diagnostic advice and support of multi-disciplinary teams across the region. You will be expected to contribute fully to the research and development plan for the department and will work as part of a team of 7 consultants (including this post) and 7 consultant and principal grade clinical scientists within HMDS.
The appointee will also be part of a larger and well established consultant group delivering the full breadth of clinical haematology services across Yorkshire and beyond and will participate in the delivery of haematology clinical services to a degree commensurate with their laboratory based duties and their previous experience and qualifications.
The post offers excellent opportunities for career development and involvement in research and innovation across both the laboratory and clinical services.
