The Canterbury Health System is a world leader in the delivery of integrated health care. Our main focus is placing people (staff and patients alike) at the centre of everything we do.

The Role: What This Opportunity's All About

Our Canterbury Regional Cancer and Haematology Service (CRCHS) is one of two tertiary centres delivering medical oncology and pharmaceutical cancer treatment in the South Island of New Zealand. We cover the needs of patients from the Canterbury, South Canterbury and West Coast Districts and support the South Island Child Cancer Service and the South Island Regional Gynecological Oncology Service. Our dedicated Oncology Ward has 25 of the 650 beds within the Hospital. A separate Bone Marrow Transplant Unit which is a 15 bed facility including nine individual isolation rooms accommodates our Haematology patients.

The CRCHS maintains close links with the University of Otago's Christchurch School of Medicine and Health Sciences and is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. There are also close links with research groups in genetics and tissue banking and are active participants in international and Australasian clinical trials.

There is a dedicated oncology day ward which delivers chemotherapy treatment. The Medical Oncology service sees approximately 18,000 patients per year and an average of 150 chemotherapy treatments weekly.

We currently have permanent positions available for qualified Medical Oncologists. To be considered for these positions you will need to hold the FRACP or an equivalent qualification that would enable registration as a specialist medical oncologist by the Medical Council of New Zealand. It is a requirement of this role to contribute to the on-call roster.
