Job Details

The successful candidate will join a team of 6 WTE substantive Consultants based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. We have an Acute Medical Unit (32 beds) and an Ambulatory Care Unit (18 spaces) for designated GP referrals which is open from 12pm to 8pm and takes the majority of patients referred in to Medicine during daytime hours, Monday to Friday. The Acute Physician team is also responsible for a 32 bedded short stay ward to ensure continuity of acute care.

The main purpose of the role is to manage acute medical admissions, particularly during the first 24-72 hours of admission and to ensure that interventions and investigations are initiated in a timely manner as soon as possible after the patient’s arrival.

The post-holder will participate in the General Medical Consultant on-call rota which is currently on a 1:12 basis.

The successful candidate will act as a member of the relevant Divisional, Trust and Regional Committees. They will also be expected to take part in management functions and strategic planning in respect of the Division and the Trust.

The Trust’s recruitment premium means that individuals choosing to come and work at MCHFT in the role of Consultant Acute Physician will benefit from an additional £23,374 on appointment, in addition to their basic salary, with an additional £23,374 paid at the completion of four years’ service. The premiums are in addition to relocation packages of up to £8,000 being offered by the Trust to successful candidates.

The department is working with the Acute Frailty Network to develop strategies and new ways of working to manage the frail older person presenting to Acute Medicine and the Emergency department. If you are interested in getting involved with grass roots change and integrated working with community teams then we would encourage you to apply.

There are many exciting possibilities for other developmental opportunities within the department including opportunities to incorporate subspecialty interests outside of Acute Medicine.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).

The posts are offered on a full-time basis; however, the Trust would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work life balance.

The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008. We have 500 hospital beds and employ more than 5,000 members of staff, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children’s health. The Trust is also responsible for the provision of a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal, working in partnership with local GPs and Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
