Suffolk County Council are expanding their Public Health team and are looking for a new consultant as our system leader, improving and protecting health, and decreasing health inequalities.

The role will be wide ranging and responsive to directorate and system needs.

Over the next few years there will be a strong focus on redesigning some of our Public Health services as we have a number of long-term contracts coming to an end. The world has changed considerably since we last commissioned these services and Covid19 has added further challenges and opportunities.

You will report to the Director of Public Health who is a respected system leader and has a team of 110 individuals with a broad range of responsibilities including leading the council interface with localities and partners. Both the DPH and the Head of Knowledge and Intelligence are joint appointments with the local NHS, and you will need to call on their core technical skills.

Importantly, you will be required to lead without formal power, be articulate, creative, and be able to communicate clearly with widely different groups such as: residents, politicians, clinicians, senior managers and executive teams in health and local authorities. You will need to be comfortable working with uncertainty and complexity.

Informal discussions with Stuart Keeble, Director of Public Health are welcome and can be arranged by emailing: sharon.ocallaghan@suffolk.gov.uk
