Job Details
Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Gynaecological and Urological pathologyto join our friendly and committed medical team within the Department of Cellular Pathology. This post attracts 10 PAs including 1 SPA to allow time for requirements of revalidation.
This is an exciting time for the department with plans to implement digital pathology over the coming year through a new partnership with the Northern Pathology Imaging Co-operative and the establishment of a Pathology Network with York Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. The department has well established working relationships with clinical teams across the Trust.
The post holder will provide and develop further with the team a comprehensive clinical and laboratory service for the Trust to nationally accredited standards of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service.
This post will involve performing or supervising cut ups, microscopy and other diagnostic techniques, working up and reporting cases at the appropriate level for a specialty doctor, and supporting clinical meetings and case discussions. The post will have a major contribution to Gynaecological and Urological pathology A willingness to integrate new diagnostic techniques into Cellular Pathology and undertake training where necessary is essential.
The cellular pathology laboratory (histology, cytology and neuropathology) is situated at the Hull Royal Infirmary in a purpose-built facility. A state-of-the-art public mortuary was completed on the Hull Royal Infirmary site in 2008. A team of Consultants carry out both Coronial work (not part of this NHS contract) and request autopsies. There is an opportunity for new appointees to join this team.
The cellular pathology laboratory was the first laboratory in the country to achieve ISO15189 accreditation through UKAS. The laboratory provides a high quality service and undertakes a wide immunocytochemistry repertoire with consistently high EQA returns. Plans are in place to develop an in-house molecular testing service. This is a forward thinking laboratory with a well established advanced practitioner training programme, a strong dissection team and plans to develop a reporting BMS post.
