Locum Consultant Communit Paediatrician

 We are looking for a Locum Consultant to cover maternity leave, until May 2021, and to commence as soon as possible.

The  Paediatric services within Gwent are being re-designed, in preparation for the opening of the new Grange University Hospital later this year. This is an exciting time to join the department and we are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic paediatrician to fill this post.

You will have General Community Paediatric responsibilities including Child Development and Disability, working as a member of the ISCAN (Integrated Service for Children with Additional Needs) team in north Gwent, along with 2 paediatric consultants and a specialty doctor. This will include undertaking assessments for autistic spectrum disorders within ISCAN. Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, working practices have changed and many clinics are being undertaken via telephone and video consultation. It is proposed that new referrals will be seen face to face.

You will contribute to the south Gwent Child Protection rota (Monday – Friday only, with no out of hours responsibilities), with section 47 medical examinations currently undertaken in Newport. These will move to the Grange University Hospital, in Cwmbran, when it opens.

Abergavenny is situated near the beautiful Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains, and within easy driving distance of Newport, Cardiff and Bristol.

Applicants without a driving license must be able to travel between health board premises within a reasonable timescale to fulfill the requirements of the post

Free parking is available across all Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Sites.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

- a children’s barred list check

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
