Applications are invited for two Consultant posts in Plastic Surgery with a special interest in Major Trauma Reconstruction. These are full time positions with 10 programmed activities and complement an experienced team already in existence in this field in the Trust. The Trust has both Adult and Paediatric Major Trauma status.
We are looking for candidates who will help deliver a high-quality Plastic Major Trauma service. Governance infrastructure, training grades, and support will be provided by the Plastic Surgery Department to aid development. The posts aim to provide support primarily to the Major Trauma Centres at the Oxford Road site (Manchester Royal Infirmary (adults) and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (paediatrics) and to plastic services in general. The post holder will be expected to provide:
- A comprehensive orthoplastic/trauma service in attaining BOAST 4 compliance.
- Elective Plastic Work
- Skills to enhance the existing trauma service and lower limb reconstruction developments.
- Participate in on call rota
The post holders will be part of a dynamic and innovative Plastic and Burns department which currently runs a post-CCT fellowship programme as well as research and teaching programmes. The post holders should be able to demonstrate competencies in general plastic/hand trauma. The post holders will be expected to work flexibly across MFT and will be fully supported by the current Orthoplastic team.
The successful candidate will have undertaken a fellowship training post in a relevant field to manage trauma reconstruction and will have a full GMC registration and a license to practice in the UK is required.
The candidates will work in a multi-disciplinary team approach alongside of medical staff, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals.
This Directorate is going through an exciting period of transformation, in line with this, this post will commence a soon as is possible. These posts will be key in leading and developing the Orthoplastic service at MFT.

Trust policy requires that the cost of submitting & processing the successful applicant/s DBS application be recovered via salary deduction following start in post. The amount of £29.50 (standard disclosure) or £47.50 (enhanced disclosure) Which will be deducted from salary, in the first 3 months of employment.
