Clinical Senior Lecturer in Colorectal Surgery

Salary Range: £79,860 - £107,668 per annum dependant on level of seniority plus £2,162 LA plus on call supplement at the appropriate rate

The Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London seeks to appoint a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Colorectal Surgery providing an outstanding opportunity to join a world-leading team whose interdisciplinary research ranks it as one of the global premier academic departments of surgery. The post will be full-time and funded for 5 years in the first instance and will hold an honorary consultant contract with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHNT)

The Department’s overarching mission is to innovate, develop and apply new translational technologies. Utilizing approaches and models to improve medical and surgical diagnostics, clinical decision-making and patient stratification. This will better inform health policy decisions and government policy.

The Division of Surgery’s interdisciplinary research spans from basic to applied and translational research across several outstanding surgical platforms such as technology, metabonomics, and patient safety. The Division is closely aligned with the Institute of Global Health Innovation and its four research centres including; the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery, the Helix Centre for Design and Healthcare, the Centre for Health Policy and the Centre for Digestive and Gut Health.

The appointee will join the team led by Professor Ara Darzi. From the clinical and NHS perspective the post holder will be a member of the clinical colorectal team within the Division of Surgery, Cancer and Cardiovascular in ICHNT. This appointment will be the core of the academic development of the themes above and will include the academic and service improvement of Colorectal and Minimal Invasive Surgery.

The successful candidate is encouraged to demonstrate a developing reputation in their field of research and an ability to attract funds to support it. As well as to have a proven track record in publishing, education including UG teaching, PG education and supervision as well as an outstanding reputation in provision of clinical service. Clinical responsibilities will include development of pelvic floor and inflammatory bowel disease service. The appointee is required to play an active role in leading undergraduate and postgraduate education in surgery.

The post holder must be accredited in General Surgery and should hold a higher degree (MD (Res), MD, MS or PhD) or equivalent. They should also preferably hold a Surgical Fellowship in their speciality and must be independent operators for the appropriate surgical procedures.
