Job Details

Applications are invited for a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist post in Aberdeen. This is an opportunity to be part of a growing team of Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetists based at the Royal Aberdeen Children Hospital. The advertised post is a whole time equivalent replacement post with 8 Direct Clinical Care programmed activities and 2 Supporting Programmed Activities. Up to 2 Extra Programmed Activities can also be agreed with the Clinical Director.

Preliminary plans are in place to expand the service in order to support increased demand. This will provide the opportunity for the successful applicant to take an active role in developing the service over the next few years.

Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital provides high quality, acute and comprehensive care for children up to the age of 16 years from the Grampian Region in the North-East of Scotland, as well as from the Orkney and Shetland Islands. It is the regional paediatric oncology provider, and is a Paediatric Major Trauma Centre.

Aberdeen is an affluent, friendly and vibrant city, combining all the amenities of a large city with easy access to spectacular surrounding countryside. This, along with a track record of excellent secondary and further education, makes it an ideal base for those with families.

Aberdeen has a sizeable Department of Anaesthesia, which covers a comprehensive range of clinical services. As part of a teaching hospital
there is strong involvement in a wide range of educational activities.

There are also many opportunities to develop research interests in collaboration with the local Universities. Consequently, there are excellent opportunities for an enthusiastic appointee to develop interests in a wide choice of areas.

It is possible for Consultants to adapt their clinical duties over time to fit with their interests, and for some aspects of the job plan to be changed on negotiation with the Clinical Director. Applications from candidates wishing to work on part time basis will be considered. It will also be possible to accommodate more flexible working arrangements including annualised job plans and job sharing.

Those trained in the United Kingdom should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).
Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required.
