An excellent opportunity to gain experience in diabetes and endocrinology in a supportive and educationally-focused environment.

The post provides registrar-level experience in a teaching hospital with all the main medical subspecialties. It would particularly suit doctors who have completed CMT and also individuals with equivalent experience.

Posts will provide excellent experience and training for those looking to progress to specialty training and also for those looking to go down the non-consultant career grade or SAS route.

The successful applicant will join a team of 5 consultants, 2 specialist registrars, a CMT/GPST, an F2 and an F1 along with a team of diabetes specialist nurses and an endocrine specialist nurse.

The unit has numerous specialist outpatient services including general endocrinology clinic, pituitary clinic (including a joint pituitary clinic with the neurosurgeons), gynae endocrine clinic, metabolic bone clinic, insulin pump clinic, young persons diabetes clinic, diabetic foot clinic and type 1 diabetes clinic.

We provide the regional pituitary service for Lancashire and South Cumbria and work closely with the neurosurgical unit which provides pituitary surgery on site.

The post is for 12 months and will provide very good basic training in diabetes and endocrinology with experience of all the common diabetes and endocrine problems along with exposure to some tertiary specialist services.

We are keen that the successful candidate is afforded all the educational opportunities of specialist trainees. They will be provided with access to the national eportfolio and be allocated an educational supervisor.

Post-holders will be encouraged to attend appropriate local specialty training sessions and complete formal assessments in line with what is expected of specialty trainees.

At the end of the post successful applicants will therefore be able to demonstrate evidence of learning and the acquisition of skills and competences that will strengthen their applications for specialty training posts.
