CONSULTANT ANAESTHETIST

Applications are invited for a Consultant Anaesthetist at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a replacement post and the candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.

The successful candidate will join an established workforce team, and will work in new ‘State of the Art’ facilities. At present the team comprises 26 consultants (including this post), 13 non Consultant career grade doctors, 4 ST3+ trainees rotating from HENW (Mersey Deanery), 2 CT1, 2 CT2, 2 ACCS trainees, and 2 ACCPs. All training posts are recognised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

There is a Treatment Centre which comprises of 4 day case theatres, 5 endoscopy rooms and a recovery area. There are 8 inpatient theatres including one 24 hour a day emergency theatre and an orthopaedic barn theatre. There are 7 trauma lists during the week and a consultant led trauma list on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Maternity Department consists of a self-contained midwife led unit with 3 rooms with birthing pools. The delivery suite has 6 standard delivery rooms, 2 theatres and a 2 bedded recovery area. There are 10 Consultant Anaesthetist sessions in maternity every week.

The Critical Care Unit usually has eleven commissioned beds with the ability to take up to 7 level 3 patients; during the COVID-19 pandemic these numbers have significantly expanded. The Unit opened in 2014 as part of the new theatre/treatment centre/critical care area.

A Surgical Admission Lounge (SAL) next to theatre admits patients on the day for elective operations. For lists with a number of patients there are staggered admissions to the SAL.

This post will contribute to the Consultant Anaesthetist on-call rota, weekend trauma lists, and a range of elective theatre work to be agreed on appointment. Some paediatric and maternity sessions will be included. The post comes with 2.0 SPA sessions per week (based on 10 PAs), and there will be active involvement in the governance, educational and quality improvement activity of the department.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).
