Job title: Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist- Dementia Intensive Support and Older Adults Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team

ELFT, Bedford, Townsend Court and Florence Ball House

We are searching for a consultant psychiatrist, new or experienced, looking for a combination post offering great variety, working with people with dementia and those with severe mental illness in crisis. This post is split to work half time in the Dementia Intensive Support Service (DIS) and half time in the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Service.

Working with the Dementia Intensive Support Service you will be helping individuals with dementia to be supported in their place of residence by the people they are familiar with, providing an urgent response and up to six weeks’ intensive care and support.

The second half of this new and exciting post is working with the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment team providing dedicated providing medical expertise in the care of older people in crisis.

You will have the opportunity to shape and develop the CRHT offer for older people from inception as further funding becomes available to build and expand the multidisciplinary team with older adult expertise.

At ELFT, and we are proud of our field leading Quality Improvement Programme and excellent leadership development support, which put improving care and developing staff at the core of what we do.

We work closely with the Institute of Health Improvement, and partner across the BLMK STP system to drive innovations in healthcare, and staff are actively encouraged to engage and lead transformation work.

In particular, the BLMK STP system has recently focused on Integrated care for the older population.

Bedfordshire and Luton sit at the heart of the three counties in the rolling Chilterns, which have been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The area boasts a multitude of picturesque villages, and outstanding Ofsted rated state and independent schools, with St Albans, Hitchin and Berkhamsted, (Sunday Times Best Place to Live 2019), all a short distance away.

Bedfordshire and Luton are very well connected, with frequent direct trains to central London which can be reached in just over half an hour.

The M1 and M25 are easily accessible, and Luton Airport enables direct links to cities across mainland Europe, and beyond.

ELFT is a teaching trust, with many opportunities to teach medical student from Cambridge University and supervise Core and Higher Trainees from East of England Deanery.

ELFT actively support academic and clinical with close links with WHO affiliated research centre the Unit for Social and Community Psychiatry, part of Queen Mary and CLAHRC research network.
