Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Upper GI Surgery based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff.
The Upper GI team is based at UHW for elective work. The major work of the unit includes the surgical management of oesophageal and gastric cancer patients. Cardiff and Vale UHB was delegated to be the Upper GI Cancer Centre for South East Wales from October 2010. In 2014, the centralisation expanded to include surgical patients from Hywel Dda Health Board (West Wales). Approximately 60-80 major oesophago-gastric re-sections are undertaken each year. The unit has a weekly Tuesday morning multidisciplinary meeting with all specialties in attendance, held at Velindre Hospital. The unit provides for a large volume of advanced laparoscopic upper GI surgery including anti-reflux surgery, splenectomy, emergency and scheduled cholecystectomy, and palliative bypass procedures; the unit does not undertake Bariatric surgery at the present time.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
