Consultant Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Medical Education and Infertility)
The Royal Surrey County Hospital Trust is a thriving District General Hospital serving a population of 320,000 with a regional cancer service covering a population of 1.2 million. The Trust has an income of over £300 million per year, in excess of 3000 staff, over 200,000 outpatient appointments per year and around 3,000 deliveries per year. Our Maternity Department has an excellent reputation having just been awarded ‘Outstanding’ at the recent CQC inspection and our general gynaecology services cover all aspects of women’s care. The Royal Surrey Maternity Department is one of only a few organisations in the country to be awarded the UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Gold Award. Gynaecological oncology is covered by colleagues working in an independent division, but we work closely with them to provide care and training in this area.
The Royal Surrey is within the Surrey Heartlands Project with Ashford St Peter’s Hospital Trust and Epsom Hospital, working together with a Local Maternity Services Board to improve and rationalise practice across the footprint. It is hoped that one of the successful candidates will participate fully in Transformation Projects within the LMS and be implementation of Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle 2.
We work closely with the School of Midwifery based at the University of Surrey, and we welcome medical students from Southampton University to do their clinical training in O and G.
Guildford is recognised as one of the leading minimal access centres in the UK. We have an increasing demand for the laparoscopic procedures that we offer. We are recognised as a major international laparoscopic training centre for MAS in gynaecology and have close links with the University of Surrey Post Graduate Medical School. The hospital is a well-established Regional Cancer Centre providing comprehensive gynaecology and other cancer surgery.
This post is for a Consultant specialising Infertility and Medical Education to join the existing team based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. This post is a substantive post and has arisen due to the retirement of an existing consultant who will be supporting the cancer fertility service. Trainees require and deserve senior support and supervision and this Consultant will play a major role in training as well as undergraduate education linked to Southampton University Medical School.
This post will be cross-covered by a matched obstetric gynaecology post with the requirement that the two post-holders do not take leave at the same time except under exceptional circumstances.
Enquires about this post should be directed to Miss Renata Hutt, Clinical Director for Obstetrics and Gynaecology for Women & Children, via email: firstname.lastname@example.org or her secretary on 01483 571122 ext. 4745.
