Consultant in Anaesthesia with an interest in Neuroanaesthesia
We are looking to appoint a Consultant Anesthetists with an interest in neuroanaesthesia. The Anesthetics division has recently been aligned to the Theatres Business Unit and now is an exciting time to be part of an integral team to assist in implementing, maintaining and delivering world class patient care through perioperative services.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the general work of the department, neuroanaesthesia, including cover for Consultant colleagues where practical. This includes working flexibly within the job plan to maintain skilled consultant cover for emergency service provision.
In addition, upon appointment, a selection of theatre sessions is available from which to choose set theatre lists. The adoption of the duty (floating) anesthetists role by the department also allows support for colleagues when necessary. As a Trust covering many tertiary services a wide breadth of surgical specialties and varying interests is also highly desirable for this post. The consultant anesthetist will be expected to provide pre-operative assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up. He/she will be expected to introduce and apply new techniques as appropriate and to take a share of the general work of the department, including cover for consultant colleagues where practical.
The Department of Anaesthesia is committed to continuing its teaching role and considerable importance is attached to the support of the junior medical staff in the Department. In addition to routine NHS teaching responsibilities the directorate has been funded to provide a significant contribution to the training of undergraduate medical students whose numbers have increased up to 300.
