This post is advertised to support the Cardio-thoracic anaesthesia and Intensive Care services at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will join the existing team of 7 Consultant Cardio-thoracic Anaesthetists. This is a replacement post to accommodate increase in activity and to improve flexibility in the Consultant cover for Cardio-thoracic theatres. The Consultant Cardio-thoracic Anaesthetist will provide Anaesthetic services with sessions in Cardio-thoracic theatres, General Surgical Theatres and Interventional Cardiology. The Anaesthetic department covers two hospitals, Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. There are 63 consultants within the department who provide in excess of 30,000 anaesthetics per year to a vast range of surgical specialties and many other clinical areas. The department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive care provides comprehensive anaesthesia services for over 1400 procedures each year. The unit, based at Castle Hill Hospital, performs around 750 cardiac surgical procedures including major aortic, mitral and minimal access aortic surgery. The thoracic surgery unit is one of the largest units in the country performing major cancer, non-cancer videoassisted surgical procedures and oesophageal surgery. The department also provides anaesthesia services to the cardiology including TAVI,primary PCI services, pacemakers & devices and a variety of electrophysiological procedures. Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a University Teaching Hospital with 1293 beds and an annual budget of £500 million. The Trust supports a variety of tertiary services and is both a Major Cancer Centre and Major Trauma Centre. The East Riding of Yorkshire is a very popular place to live. It extends to several well known East Coast resorts as well as containing the Yorkshire Wolds and Yorkshire Moors.
