Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care and Paediatric Anaesthetics
Applications are invited for a Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care and Paediatric Anaesthetics at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH).
We seek to appoint a dynamic clinician to join a team of Consultant Paediatric Intensivist’s and Anaesthetists in this busy regional centre.
This is an exciting time to join the team as there is funding of £128m for a new children’s hospital in Cambridge to open in 2023. Plans for a new regional Paediatric Intensive Care Retrieval Service are now well advanced.
The appointee’s will provide clinical leadership, specialist advice and multi-disciplinary management for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and Paediatric Anaesthesia. Our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit supports a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, major trauma, education and research.
Services include specialist surgery such as Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Urology, Orthopaedics, Scoliosis Surgery, Plastic and Cleft Surgery, Paediatric General Surgery, and Oncology Surgery. Medical services supported include Acute Paediatrics, Endocrinology, Respiratory, Immunology, Rheumatology, Haematology, Oncology, Allergy, Neurology, and Gastroenterology.
Paediatric Anaesthesia consists of a sub-specialty cohort of Anaesthetists who possess the necessary clinical skills to provide the highest levels of anaesthetic care.
There are close links with the University Department of Paediatrics and the Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The Consultant will join a close team of Nurses, Physiotherapists, Dieticians, SLT, Psychologists, Counsellors and other members of the multidisciplinary team as well as five other Consultants.

You will be fully registered with the GMC or be within six months of award of CCT in Anaesthesia, or Paediatric Intensive Care at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full-time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
As part of our commitment to supporting the medical workforce in the part they play in delivering an excellent caring service to patients, all newly appointed Consultants attend our five-day Consultant Development programme within a year of joining the Trust. Leadership is a key requirement of doctors’ professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.
The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013).
