Consultant in the Pyschiatry of Learning Disability
Anticipated Start Date: Immediate
Based at Blaenau Gwent Community Learning Disability Team
Closing Date for Applications: Midnight on 27th August 2020
This is a new post developed to provide further Clinical Leadership to the LD Directorate and to consolidate our Consultant numbers.
Facilities: Office accommodation is provided within Blaenau Gwent Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) with access to office space in Caerphilly CLDT and Llanfrechfa Grange (as needed). Secretarial support is based at Blaenau Gwent CLDT for Blaenau Gwent patients (2days) and in Caerphilly CLDT for Caerphilly patients (4 days). Full IT facilities will be provided.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing outpatient services to Blaenau Gwent, which has a total population of approximately 69,600 (currently 65 patients on medical caseload) and for providing care for approximately half the patients in Caerphilly (total population 180,000, currently 177 patients on medical caseload) the other patients remaining under the care of the current consultant covering Caerphilly. The successful applicant would also provide clinical leadership and care for 5 patients accommodated in the Caerphilly residential facility Twyn Glas.
We are currently reviewing our provision of community services and the successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical leadership with the other Consultants for the implementation of this review. The intention of the community service review is to strengthen the multidisciplinary community teams (including enlarging the medical workforce) and to broaden the work of the CLDTs.
The LD Directorate is committed to developing a modern, evidence based, needs led service for people with a Learning Disability. This post provides an exciting opportunity to join an established and innovative directorate which is striving to provide excellent care for the population of Gwent who have a Learning Disability. The LD directorate is working on a number of initiatives to improve patient experience and provide a modern LD service for the future while continuing to deliver high quality care.
The Health Board actively supports consultant doctors to undertake funded 3 month formal sabbaticals through an annual application process.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children and/or adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

- an adults and children’s barred list check
Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR (CP) date within 6 months of interview.
