Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine and Asthma
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Respiratory Consultant based at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a large inner city teaching hospitals Trust. The successful applicant would ideally start as soon as possible. The department currently provides a general respiratory service as well as a number of specialities including thorascopy, vasculitis, severe asthma, interstitial and pleural disease.
The post includes input into the Severe Asthma Service, overseeing pharmacological asthma research and supporting general respiratory activity within the hospital. We would welcome applicants with experience in these fields but will also be happy to consider other specialities in order to meet the needs of our patients.
The successful candidate will join the 3 consultants currently delivering the Liverpool Severe Asthma service with collaboration from the Aintree site with a dedicated team of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapists and Specialist Pharmacist. The team delivers a multidisciplinary weekly severe asthma clinic, an MDT with specialist pharmacist support and a weekly nurse led asthma clinic.
There are strong links with the Trust’s ENT/SALT led voice clinic and respiratory physiotherapy. The service delivers tertiary care and is specially commissioned by NHS England to deliver Severe Asthma Services.
The asthma team participates in monthly network videoconferences where patients requiring tertiary treatments are discussed and appropriate data for the national registry are recorded. Biologic treatments are offered on the respiratory day ward with many of our asthma patients have been enrolled in several academic and commercial research studies.
The department currently provides a number of community clinics and are currently participating in a city wide redesign of the specialty. The successful applicant would be joining an established team of 10 consultants and a team of highly trained nurses specialising in COPD, severe asthma and lung cancer.
The right applicant will be joining us at an exciting time and would gain invaluable experience within a university teaching hospital. With the care group we have nationally recognised expertise in infectious diseases and the regional specialities of vascular, HPB and renal transplant within the trust.
