Consultant Medical Oncologist - with an interest in Breast cancer and Melanoma. Breast cancer oncology lead.

St. Luke’s Cancer Centre, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Medical Oncologist to join the Oncology team at St Luke’s Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. The Trust is delighted to invite an experienced or new Oncology Consultant to join our friendly and motivated team in a permanent 10PA role.

The successful applicant will be based at the RSCH in Guildford, providing care to our expanding Oncology services. The post specialises in breast and skin cancers with clinics and MDTs to reflect this.

The Royal Surrey County Hospital Foundation Trust provides specialist Cancer and Haemato-oncological care, including complex Cancer surgery, to the population of the South West Surrey and Hampshire (previously SWSH cancer network), a catchment area of approximately 1.2 million. Non-surgical oncological treatment for these patients is provided at the St. Luke’s Cancer Centre, which is an integral part of the Trust. There are close links with surrounding cancer units and the Surrey Clinical Research Centre.

Here at St Luke’s, we aim to provide first class, high quality care for all of our patients in a friendly and professional setting. Our services have received national recognition and praise and our patients benefit from the latest and most innovative treatments available, delivered by a team of committed and highly skilled staff. You will be joining our team of 27 oncologists, supported by a team of Specialist Registrars, Specialty Doctors, SHOs, AHP’s and Specialist Nurses.

This is a 10PA post consisting of ward work, outpatient clinics and MDT meetings (see sample job plan in attached job description). In order to fulfil the responsibilities of this post you must be eligible for full GMC registration.

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is a multi-site acute and community Trust, based in Guildford, which serves a population of more than 336,000 across south west Surrey. We are also a specialist tertiary cancer centre, offering state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services to a population of up to two million and a tertiary specialist centre for ENT and Maxillofacial surgery. We attract referrals from across the whole country for other specialties (i.e. urology).

We attract referrals from across the country for some specialties including urology. Our Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (key-hole surgery) is one of only three such training units in the UK. Our patients also benefit from state of the art diagnostic equipment including two MRI scanners, four CT scanners, interventional radiology equipment and a gamma camera. We have one of the lowest mortality rates in the country.

We employ around 4,200 members of staff making us one of Guildford’s largest employers. In addition, the hospital is supported by a thriving group of 500 volunteers all of whom provide valuable services on an independent, voluntary basis.

We have a great reputation and history of embracing quality improvement (QI) and transformation work – continuously improving is one of our core values.

The Trust has strong links with the nearby University of Surrey and staff are well supported if they wish to undertake further study. As well as this, staff are able to develop and enhance skills and knowledge by undertaking post-qualification support and training at the hospital’s dedicated Education Centre

Situated on a green field site on the outskirts of Guildford, the Trust has excellent rail and road links (via the A3 and M25) to London (35 minutes) and to the south coast (35 minutes).

Guildford has great shopping, entertainment and leisure facilities.  The picturesque Surrey countryside is ideal for good walks and outdoor pursuits and has numerous historic village inns. Guildford has a number of schools, both private and state, which cater for all bands of ability.
