Applications are invited for a full-time post of Consultant in Paediatric Gastroenterology (Hepatology & Nutrition) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH).

We are seeking a motivated Paediatric Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist to join an established team of 4 Consultants in a Referral Unit serving a population of over 1.5m children and young people in the East of England.

The successful candidate will join a friendly and enthusiastic team of around 30 individuals, including Specialist Nurses, Therapists, Psychologists, Research Scientists and International Fellows.

The ideal candidate should have experience in endoscopy and will be supporting a regionally networked service that includes dedicated IBD, HPN and Nutrition teams. The candidate will also provide shared care liver services with outreach support from King’s College, London.

Our team is passionate about the continuous improvement of our Service, working with commercial partners, the third sector and families to find new ways of achieving better patient outcomes and experience.

The Unit includes a fully-integrated Translational Research Laboratory focused on Paediatric GI health, development and IBD. We have an active clinical trials program coordinated by a full-time Research Nurse, with research activities forming an essential aspect of our Service. We have significant collaborations across the biomedical campus and internationally, attracting a stream of highly talented clinical and research staff.

We fully support each team member in developing their personal skills and areas of interest, whether contributing to research, taking part in our educational events, or collaborating with national/international centres of excellence to acquire new knowledge.

CUH, together with Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Foundation Trust have been awarded £100m funding to develop and build a new Children’s Hospital on the Addenbrookes campus. This will include a fully integrated approach to physical and mental health, as well as dedicated University space for paediatric research. Work is underway with the building expected to open in 2025.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Paediatric Gastroenterology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

As part of our commitment to supporting the medical workforce in the part they play in delivering an excellent caring service to patients, all newly appointed Consultants attend our five-day Consultant Development programme within a year of joining the Trust. Leadership is a key requirement of doctors’ professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013).

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
