Consultant in Infection
This post is for a part-time Consultant in Infection (7PA including on call) to work within an evolving Infection Service based in the Department of Pathology at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR).
The post holder will be joining an existing team of 5 Consultant Clinical Microbiologists (3 full time and 2 part-time), 1 Consultant Clinical Scientist, 1 Clinical Scientist (HSST Trainee) and a Northwest Deanery CIT trainee. The post holder in conjunction with colleagues will play an active role in the planning, development and delivery of the Infection Service for the hospital.
The Microbiology department has UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189 standard and processes approx 405,000 tests per year. Equipment includes POS instrument, BactAlert blood culture system, Maldi-TOF, Vitek 2, Cepheid Gene Xpert,UF1000 analysers, PerkinElmer, Cobas 4800, Cobas 601, easy mag, Vidas and liaison analysers.
The Trust provides the full range of acute outpatient and inpatient services to 380,000 people living in Central Lancashire. It also provides specialist services including the Network Cancer Centre to 1.5 million people in the Lancashire and South Cumbria area and has active and developing links with the University of Central Lancashire and Manchester University including provision of the clinical medical student curriculum and modules. Good opportunities for research are available.
For part time this will be pro-rata’s as per the job plan
The post holder will be expected to participate in the out of hours clinical microbiology on-call service on a rotational basis, including week nights, weekend and Bank Holidays.
