Consultant in Medical Oncology – with an interest in the management of Head & Neck Cancer

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is an international leader in cancer research and development and is the largest single site cancer treatment centre of its kind in Europe. We are looking for a locum consultant with a specialist interest in Head & Neck Cancer to deliver eight sessions per week in this new and exciting field. 

The appointee will be based at The Christie and will provide consultant level care for patients with Head and Neck cancers.  This includes providing outpatient care through the outpatient clinics and day case units where Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) Treatments are delivered, as well as inpatient care on the main adult oncology wards. 

There are five Consultant Clinical Oncologists in the head and neck team, one of whom currently sees patients with recurrent/metastatic disease. This post will be the first Medical Oncologist to join the team. The successful applicant to this post will take over leadership of the delivery of palliative systemic therapy. The Head and Neck team generally has 3-4 inpatients and the workload is supported by Consultant Acute Physicians who work in the Oncology Assessment Unit.  The Head and Neck consultants work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the delivery of this work including Nurse Clinicians, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Fellows, Specialist Trainee and Research Nurses.


Trial activity is embedded within clinical service activity across all Disease Groups at The Christie and the post holder will be expected to maintain and develop existing research and trial activity within the Disease Groups.  

The successful applicant will either be appointed to the Consultant scale (full-time equivalent £77,913 - £105,042 per annum (pro rata) as appropriate depending on experience.  There is no-call commitment attached to this post.
