Duties and Responsibilities
Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellow to join the UCL Huntington’s Disease (HD) Centre at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. This exciting post will support the clinical development aims of a range of antisense oligonucleotide, gene therapy and small molecule huntingtin lowering trials led by Professor Sarah J Tabrizi at the UCL HD Centre in collaboration with UCLH and the Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Clinic.

The post-holder will participate in the multidisciplinary HD and neurogenetics clinics at the NHNN, both under the clinical supervision of Professor Sarah Tabrizi and Dr Edward Wild. The award-winning HD clinic cares for patients with HD from premanifest gene carriers through to patients with advanced disease and receives referrals from all over the country. In addition, the post-holder will be an integral part of the UCL HD Centre and gain both research and clinical experience in neurogenetics, neurodegenerative diseases, HD, clinical assessments, movement disorders, neuroimaging research and cognitive neuroscience. The postholder will have the opportunity to develop research projects alongside the clinical trials. This is an exciting opportunity to become involved in early phase and larger pivotal Phase III trials with the aim of bringing the first ever disease modifying treatment to the HD community. The successful applicant will undertake a higher degree (MD or PhD), as part of the research project.

The post holder will be required to hold an Honorary Clinical Contract with University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the application process for which requires a DBS check.

The post is available from 1 February 2021, and is funded by a combination of philanthropic and research funding for 3 years in the first instance.

Key Requirements
Applicants must be a Registered Medical Practitioner permitted to practise in the UK and have completed general medical training to SHO/ST1 or equivalent level. Experience of working in Adult Neurology or Genetics at ST1 or above is essential, as is an interest in neurodegenerative disease, and demonstrable experience and independent proficiency in lumbar puncture. Applicants must have a very high level of consideration and care for patients and research participants, show excellent oral and written communication skills and work co-operatively in a multi-disciplinary setting. Experience of clinical/translational research, of working in Huntingtin’s disease or similar and of peer-reviewed publication of research is desirable.
