Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join Martlets.   

This is a part-time, substantive post which attracts full NHS Terms and Conditions. 

The job plan comprises 8 programmed activities including a 1 in 6 second on call commitment.  

The successful candidate will join the existing team of three consultants providing medical support and leadership within Martlets hospice and community settings. 

Martlets clinical services include an 18 bedded specialist palliative care in-patient unit, a busy community specialist palliative care service, which includes a dedicated Hospice at Home team and a growing suite of out-patient services.  In the most recent Care Quality Commission report (February 2016), the Martlets Hospice was rated ‘Outstanding’ for Caring and ‘Good’ overall.

Martlets is a responsive, agile and creative organisation and this has never been more apparent than during the recent pandemic.  We are keen to develop all that has been learned through this time of transformation and are seeking a consultant colleague that will contribute to further growth and innovation. 

The catchment area of Martlets, with a population of approximately 320,000, includes the city of Brighton and Hove and the coastal strip to Newhaven.  As a city, Brighton is vibrant, colourful and creative.  It benefits from excellent communication links, including being close to London and Gatwick.

The post includes a key role in medical education and training, and out-patient service development.  Medical leadership to further optimise our use of digital technologies to support our clinical work would be an optional opportunity.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC, with a current licence to practice and be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of obtaining a CCT, at the time of the advisory appointments committee.
