The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust (MYHT) and Wakefield Hospice are looking for a dynamic enthusiastic consultant to join the specialist palliative care team working across both community and hospice sites. This is a replacement post and the successful candidate will work with the trust specialist palliative care team to provide services across the hospital and community and with the multidisciplinary team at Wakefield Hospice to provide inpatient and day therapy services. It is expected that the successful candidate will take a lead role in community services and there is flexibility in the existing consultant team to enable pursuit of the successful candidate’s personal areas of interest. The post holder will work in a team of 4 consultants and 13 clinical nurse specialists who provide cross cover and support. Mid Yorkshire Hospitals end of life care services were rated as good in our last CQC visit. The multidisciplinary community team see approximately 1000 referrals per year and the Wakefield Hospice admits approximately 300 patients per year.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work at a locality level as part of a collaborative end of life care partnership group improving co-ordination of care of patients in the last year of life.

The teams are committed to education and service improvement with projects on fast track discharge and roll out of gold standards framework in hospital currently in progress. The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract provides lymphoedema services across the region.

The post holder will join an on call rota of one in seven providing out of hours telephone advice across the Mid Yorkshire, Huddersfield and Calderdale footprint.

Applicants should possess, or be within 6 months of receiving a CCT at the time of the advisory appointments committee.

The appointment will be on the basis of the new consultant contract laid down by the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff Terms and Conditions of Service and will be remunerated as appropriate on the salary scale £79,860 - £107,668 per annum.
