Consultant Respiratory Medicine with Expertise in Lung Failure

The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with Expertise in Lung Failure. This post is a replacement post; it is a whole time Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with Expertise in Lung Failure.

Within the Trust we have expertise in the treatment of Lung Failure and Sleep Disorders including investigating and managing patients with acute respiratory failure, and those with a range of chronic disorders including neuromuscular disease and advanced COPD. We have a large home ventilation service responsible for over 1900 patients on home ventilatory support and have special expertise in all forms of non-invasive ventilation, weaning, and tracheostomy ventilation.

The team runs Royal Brompton Centre for Sleep and ward Sleep labs in which they perform a complex rage of sleep investigations including respiratory polygraphy, polysomnography, multiple sleep latency tests and actigraphy in order to manage a wide variety of patients with sleep related breathing disorders and intrinsic sleep conditions such as narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome and parasomnias.

The appointee will join a multidisciplinary team on the Royal Brompton site and contribute to a first class diagnostic and treatment service. This will include inpatient and outpatient management, review of day case ventilation patients, review of sleep study patients and reporting of sleep and respiratory muscle studies, management of transfers from other Trusts, review of respiratory patients on Sydney Street High Dependency Unit/AICU/cardiology wards together with supervision of Rapid Response clinics.

The appointee will provide respiratory advice and management to adults on AICU at RBH and co-develop the sleep and ventilation service, integrating advances in diagnosis and management and informing colleagues of these developments.
