The candidate must be able to demonstrate a commitment to and enthusiasm for general obstetrics and benign gynaecology. The position will require the management of antenatal and intrapartum care as well as gynaecological emergencies.

The candidate should be able to compliment and support the services currently provided by the department, these are the desirable areas we would like the candidate to be able to support; Fertility, Ambulatory care and education & training.

The successful applicant will be part of a team of 10 consultants delivering a benign gynaecology clinics and theatre sessions at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and West Cornwall hospital with access to fully integrated theatres. They will deliver high quality Obstetric care, providing an antenatal clinic and ensuring excellent care of women on the labour ward. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology department currently has 9 general gynaecology consultants, 3 gynaecology oncology consultants, 3 obstetric consultants, 2 Associate Specialists and 1 Speciality doctor. This specialty provides obstetrics and gynaecology services to the women of Cornwall.

The specialty is actively involved in the delivery of the education programme of the University of Exeter Medical School.
