As one of the only truly integrated trusts in the UK, we’re launching a search for five dynamic, motivated and visionary geriatricians with experience of working across traditional health and social care boundaries.

These appointments mark the start of our journey to construct and develop a completely new and innovative department of Medicine for Older People, to ensure that our island population receives the highest quality of care within their places of residence, through acute medical pathways, and access to
specialist departments and resources when appropriate. This includes a formal partnership with Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust that extends to working with the University of Portsmouth.

Our island includes an over 65s population that is 50% higher than that of mainland England and Wales, and an age profile that is set to increase dramatically over the next five to ten years.

All five posts will include 4.5–5.5DCC in a chosen specialty area. We are particularly looking for Geriatricians with an interest in:

  • Perioperative care
  • Stroke
  • Dementia
  • Frailty
  • Interface geriatrics
  • General geriatrics
  • Movement disorders
  • Multi-morbidity including end stage organ failures (cardiac,
  • renal, respiratory)
  • Community geriatrics

The posts will also include 2DCC of Acute and General Internal medicine, covering the acute medical weekend take and overnight on-calls. The majority of the acute take is >65, with a significant proportion being >85.

We are keen to embrace new ways of working to include:

  • Annualised weekend and overnight on-call rosters to allow for
  • flexible working
  • 1.0 DCC - collective cover of general medical/geriatric in-patients
  • 1.5 SPA for personal and professional development
  • Up to 1 SPA for teaching and training

These appointments will suit both experienced consultants looking to take their career to the next level of clinical leadership, and newly qualified consultants who wish to work in a new and innovative department, forging the future for themselves and others.

The posts are designed to be as flexible as possible and less than whole time working and job shares will be encouraged and supported.

For an informal discussion contact Dr Adam Feather, Divisional Director for Medicine, adam.feather1@nhs.net or Ms. Charlise Cuthbert, Associate Director of Operations, charlise.cuthbert@nhs.net or via switchboard on
