Are you looking to take the next step in your medical career in Emergency Medicine?

We're looking for motivated and enthusiastic trust grade doctors to join our fantastic ED team here at Noble's Hospital on the Isle of Man.

About the Role

The post is a fixed term position based at Noble’s Hospital, though work in Pre- hospital Care will be carried out around the island. Your time will be split between the Emergency Department and the Pre-hospital Care (70% EM; 30% PHC) and is ideally suited to someone who has completed EM training and looking for a post that will broaden their clinical experience and allow them to lead service delivery changes. The posts are for a period of 1 year, extending to two by mutual agreement.

After a period of training to work in the PHC environment, you will then be responsible for the delivery of clinical care to patients and will be supported at all times by telephone access to a Consultant with Pre-hospital care experience.

You will have the chance to gain eligibility to undertake the Diploma of Immediate Medical Care (RCSEd).

Why join us?

Here, you will be able to gain significant experience of major trauma associated with the island’s widespread motorsport culture – this is particularly concentrated during the TT fortnight in June followed by the Manx Grand Prix in August where several major traumas can be admitted each day requiring extensive stabilisation and intervention. Outside the motorsport season, due to the wide variety of presentations to the department given our unique location, you will have ample time to develop core techniques within Emergency Medicine within a supportive educational environment. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to undertake audit and other projects which will help improve your CV in preparation should you wish to apply for core or specialty training applications.

During racing periods, you will help man a dedicated response car that will serve during racing and dependant on individual skill sets join the rota for helicopter.

This is a brilliant opportunity for you work alongside a knowledgable and supportive team comprising of three Consultants in Emergency Medicine, two Associate Specialists and nine ‘tier 4’ Specialty Doctors, as well as a large team of nursing staff, many of whom qualified Emergency Nurse Practitioners.

In return we can offer you a competitive salary, annual leave entitlement and active support for your own personal career goals, aspirations and development!

About our Department

The post is based at Noble’s Hospital which is a modern, bright hospital serving the acute healthcare needs of the Isle of Man. Like the UK NHS, the Isle of Man Health Service is free at the point of delivery. This post may be suited to someone who has completed their foundation training but would like further experience in a small but supportive Emergency Department prior to committing to joining a specialty training programme. The hospital is situated in the capital of the Isle of Man and equipped to the very latest standards with an Education and Training Centre and library situated in the grounds.

Our training centre called Keyll Darree comprises lecture theatre, well stocked medical library, training facilities and a state of the art simulation lab which is operated by trained simulation practitioners. Frequent simulation based surgical training programmes are run from the lab as well as drills to practice emergency procedures.

The Terms and Conditions of service on the island for this post are essentially the same as in the United Kingdom with enhancements such as automatic annual incremental pay rises.
