Locum Consultant Anaesthetist

Initially for 6 months subject to review

During this difficult COVID-19 period, we are seeking to increase our Anaesthesia workforce to support additional surgical lists as part of the agreed Greater Manchester Surgery Cancer Centre Hub.  Is this something you can support us with?

We are looking for Consultant Anaesthetists who are willing to work on an adhoc basic that will enable you to have flexibility to work around any existing commitments.  We are seeking to support our Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Services across a range of oncological specialties in our large single site cancer centre. We need you to provide agreed flexible daytime sessions in Anaesthesia and Preoperative assessment.

We are situated in south Manchester, and provide the largest cancer treatment centre of its kind in Europe, and an international leader in cancer research and development. The Christie serves a local population of 3 Million within the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network, providing surgery, radiotherapy and complex chemotherapy services. Satellite radiotherapy sites in Oldham, Salford and a mobile chemotherapy service enable the majority of care to be delivered close to the patient’s home.

We have an eight bedded Critical Care Unit, 5 operating theatres, and are looking to support our workforce of 16 Consultant Anaesthetists during this Coronavirus pandemic. This fixed term post will be offered as a 0 hours contract to enable greater temporary flexibility and additional support for our Anaesthesia workforce at this time.

You will have:

CCT and be registered on the GMC Specialist Register

Wide experience in Anaesthetics including oncological surgery, perioperative medicine and critical care.

Possession of additional experience or  training in the sub-specialty or a higher qualification is desirable.

Commitment to improving the services provided.

Excellent communication skills.

All applicants are encouraged to make contact for an informal discussion in the first instance with: Dr John Barnes, Clinical Director at john.barnes@christie.nhs.uk, you do not need to apply at this stage as Dr Barnes will advise on the next steps after your discussion.
