Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals began serving its local residents on 1 July 2023, in the same week as the NHS’s 75th anniversary.
We serve a population of over 600,000 with a combined workforce of around 9,000 dedicated and skilled staff delivering acute hospital care, intermediate care, primary care, and community-based services.
We provide regional services for burns, plastic surgery, and spinal injuries, to more than four million people across Merseyside and West Lancashire, Cheshire, The Isle of Man and North Wales.

Whiston Hospital opened in 2010 and is a state-of-the-art facility offering excellent patient care to patients across Merseyside, Cheshire and beyond.
Southport and Formby Hospital
Southport and Formby Hospital this includes adults’ accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities.
St Helens Hospital
St Helens Hospital opened in 2008 and is a purpose designed hospital offering a full range of outpatients clinics, day case surgery and diagnostic suites.
Ormskirk Hospital provides women’s and children’s services, including accident and emergency services, surgery and maternity care.
Newton inpatient unit
Newton inpatient unit provides rehabilitation for patients who are medically fit to leave the acute care but require more therapy or clinical input to help them return home (or assisted care environment).
St Helens Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC)
Open 365 Days of the year. It has an On-site pharmacy, X-ray, ECG, Blood testing facilities
