About Us

Our 6,500 strong workforce is helping to shape our strategy for the future with a focus on integration, improving the wellbeing of our patients and providing excellent community and hospital services for our population. We are responsible for delivering over 70 services across 15 main locations to over half a million people. We want the Trust to be a great place for everyone to work. We are serious about supporting a diverse workforce that reflects our local community and are very much focused on being an inclusive and compassionate place to work. We are also fortunate to be based in one of the most beautiful areas of the county with the Lake District on our doorstep. Staff wellbeing has never been more important and our aim is to create a culture which values professional behaviours and enables people to be the best they can be. We want to be clinically-led with clinicians and support staff working together in partnership to do the right thing for our patients. The Trust includes the words ‘integrated care’ in the title to set it apart from what has gone before - with the Trust working side-by-side with partners across the North East and Cumbria and the wider community to join up health and care for our patients. Significant investment is also improving the services we are able to offer for patients.  In addition to the £35m Cancer Centre which opened in 2019 at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle in partnership with Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; the Trust is in the process of delivering a £40m investment to redevelop West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven (this is phase two of a £130m project). The huge upgrade in facilities for both patients and staff will create a modern environment with state-of-the-art equipment. We have also recently been successful in receiving £15m to create a purpose-built Community Diagnostic Centre in Workington with work set to get underway this year.
