Emma Cartwright


Emma Cartwright is a PhD student at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, within the Lee Kong Chian medical school. She has received a Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) to complete her PhD studies and her research will focus on interventions to support people with chronic kidney disease in delivering dialysis at home. She will focus on the impact of peer support and relationship with healthcare professionals on these patient’s health outcomes.

After being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, at the age of 4, Emma has worked on a number of projects looking to initiate peer support for young people with Diabetes. These projects have involved setting up Facebook groups, delivering a 12-week theatre program and developing a film for GPs about Diabetes with a group of young people with Type 1. Emma is also a patient advisor for the Scottish parliament on Diabetes where she advocates for peer support.
