Ethical considerations

14 February 2012

Dear Editors,

Now they use mitochondrial DNA from 3 parents to perform successful, disease-free IVFs.

Tomorrow they might use plasmid DNA from 30 parents to improve a child’s genome.

In a year’s time they might use plasmid DNA from elite donors to ensure eugenics.

In 5 years they might use superior, disease-free embryos.

Where does it stop? Is it ethical? Will we arrive to have other people’s genome in our children?
