What is compassion?

29 July 2011

Compassion is identification with the pain and suffering of another.
This identification is not limited to mankind, and the animal world is
full of examples. Many pet-owners have been humbled by their pets'
compassion. So let's not flaunt our compassion, and recognize that it is
the least we can offer those who suffer. Identification doesn't require
sophistication, education, or vocation.
