Politics of conflict: doctors, like MPs, should declare their interests

What are the professions?

10 October 2010

Despite their exalted status, titles, expertise, and altruism, the
professions are nonetheless a salesforce for industry. Physicians
represent the pharmaceutical, device, and hospital industries; attorneys
represent the insurance and justice industries; military represent the
weapons industry; politicians represent the lobbying industry; and media
represent the advertising industry. Let's recognize that the professions
have inherent conflicts of interest, and judge them accordingly. But let's
not expect the professions to make any confessions.

Competing interests: None declared
