Honorary and ghost authorship in high impact biomedical journals: a cross sectional survey

BMJ 2011; 343 doi: https://doi.org/10.1136/bmj.d6128 (Published 25 October 2011) Cite this as: BMJ 2011;343:d6128

Rapid Response:

Needs more information about inappropriate authorship

Wislar et al. presented interesting results about an inappropriate
authorship in articles published in high impact factor journals.
Considering substantial contribution of backgrounds of the studies on this
type of behavior, it is interest to see stratified analysis by the factors
such as region where studies were conducted, area of the studies or
numbers of institutions involved in the studies. Such information would
give more clues in mechanisms behind malpractice in authorship and
contribute to future promotion of appropriate authorship in all the
medical articles.
