Rapid Response:

Vitamin B12 into the bladder?

Remission treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency with hydroxocobalamin,
1 mg i.m. three times weekly will mainly go straight into the bladder. A
better strategy is to give the injections weekly for five weeks (Erik M
Mangnus, Scand J Haematol 1986;36:457-65). This regimen will refill body
stores to approximately 50% and pave the way for maintainance therapy,
preferably with oral cyanocobalamin, 1 mg daily.
