Rapid Response:

Tobacco Smoking and Periodontal Disease

All diseases disabilities and deaths that are preventable are
unnatural disasters, because being preventable they are unneccessary; none
more so than those caused by tobacco consumption. The same can be said of
periodontal disease. Tobacco is known to be one of the strongest risk factors
for both cardiovascular disease and periodontal disease. So it would be
interesting to know how many of the subjects of this study were smokers
and how many were non-smokers. It would also interesting to know the
levels of Creactive Protein in the those subjects who were either smokers
or non-smokers, and whether the level of Creactive Protein and the
incidence of CVS disease was greater in smokers than non-smokers.
