Catholic priests: it is better to marry than to burn (and beat up)

Religious Vows

3 June 2009

Although noble in intent, religious vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience are
nonetheless draconian and difficult, if not impossible, to keep. So it should
come as no surprise that many votaries unwillingly succumb to destructive
behavior. Prospective votaries should carefully consider the superhuman effort
it will take to honor their vows. And religious institutions should alleviate the
extreme burdens placed on votaries, who wish to serve humanity and deserve
to be treated humanely.
