Let’s abandon hope

Great Expectations (Charles Dickens)

13 December 2009

Life is full of great expectations and equally great disappointments. Time and
again our hopes are dashed, but each time they resurrect themselves like the
mythical phoenix. This eternal hopefulness is the essence of life, because
without it we succumb to disappointment and give up on life. So let’s be
grateful
for our great, albeit unrealistic expectations, but let’s try to temper them with
the wisdom gained by past disappointments.
